FRAN LAUZON

BIOGRAPHY

Fran has been involved in the visual arts since the 1970’s and is largely self-taught. Since retirement from a 33 year career in health care, she has devoted herself to artistic endeavors. She paints primarily in transparent watercolors but has expanded her interests to include soft pastel, oil, and mixed media projects. She is a keen observer of nature and the landscape and regularly works on location. She also draws from the human figure and creates three dimensional soap stone sculptures. Her work is noted for its expressive, flowing style and unique colour.

By attending workshops, a weekly painting group and life drawing sessions, Fran continues to develop and refine her skills and techniques. She has taught a beginning watercolour class for several years and volunteered at a local nursing home to assist handicapped seniors to express themselves with watercolour.

Fran owned a quilt shop for ten years --- an experience which helped to expand her strong sense of colour and design. Having closed the retail business, she continues to work in the media of fiber art with her own original quilt designs and has been successful in winning national competitions in this field.
